East
Timor: Be wary of crime, US gov't tells its nationals
Washington,
June 25 (Lusa) - The United States Department of State has
renewed its advice for American citizens traveling to East Timor to
"exercise extreme caution" and "remain alert".
The State
Department issued its latest public announcement on the
Timorese security situation Tuesday, warning US nationals to "exercise
extreme caution especially in public places ... and other places
frequented by foreigners".
"Timor
continues to experience problems with crime, both violent and
non-violent. Most crimes occur in Dili, with foreigners often targeted
by muggers and robbers. Americans are strongly encouraged to exercise
caution, especially at night", the State Department informed US
travelers.
