'The
Judicial System Monitoring Programme (JSMP) was set up as an East
Timorese NGO in early 2001. Through court monitoring, the provision of
legal analysis and thematic reports on the development of the judicial
system, and outreach and information dissemination, JSMP is committed
to the
ongoing evaluation and building of the justice system in East Timor. JSMP's
international and East Timorese staff have together established a small
but
important presence in Dili.
JSMP is
currently seeking a new Director to start as soon as possible. We
are advertising both internationally and in East Timor. East Timorese
are
strongly encouraged to apply.
Terms of
Reference
Director
The JSMP
director has the responsibility of overseeing the daily activities
of the organisation, and to ensure that long term planning and strategy
is
being developed and implemented.
Specific
responsibilities include:
- Overall
management of organisation and operations
- Development of JSMP organisational long-term and short-term plans
- Oversee implementation of activities
- Writing project proposals in cooperation with JSMP staff
- Relations with donors and INGOs
- Maintain close relationships and communication with East Timorese
and International NGOs
- Contact with Governmental officials
- Management of staff
- Act in representative capacity
- Final review of JSMP reports prior to publication
Selection Criteria:
- Law degree
or significant background working in legal field
- Project management skills including donor liaison and fundraising
- Leadership and management experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of human rights law and international
humanitarian law
- Knowledge of the history and general situation in East Timor
- Knowledge of the East Timorese justice sector desirable
- Good communication skills - written and spoken
- Solid computer knowledge
- Social and cultural sensibility
- Editing and/or media experience an advantage
- Language skills: English and either Tetum or Bahasa Indonesia.
Portuguese is an advantage.
