Last E. Timor cases to be tried
JAKARTA: State prosecutors will submit on Tuesday the last four cases
of the
1999 East Timor debacle to the Central Jakarta human rights court, a
completion of the 12 indictments made against the authorities of the former
Indonesia province.
The final cases involve former chief of the Udayana Regional Military
Command, which also oversaw East Timor, Maj. Gen. Adam Damiri, former
East
Timor military commander Brig. Gen. Suhartono Suratman, Suhartono's successor
Brig. Gen. M. Noer Muis, and Tribuana military unit chief Col. Yayat
Sudrajat.
The four are the highest-ranking officers in the list of 18 suspects.
The
court is now hearing the other eight cases, which revolve around the attack
by pro-Jakarta camps on refugee proindependence groups before and after
the
Aug. 30, 1999 independence ballot.
Attorney General's Office spokesman Barman Zahir said on Monday that
secretary of the team of ad hoc prosecutors Umar Bawazier and prosecutor
K.
Lere would file the four cases with the court.
