Ramos-Horta Did Not Meet With Gen.Wiranto
A local NGO Lao Hamutuk published an erroneous statement in which
it referred to a meeting involving President Xanana Gusmao and myself
with former Gen. Wiranto.
The NGO, in a typical fashion of NGOs that are not careful about their
allegations, did not bother to check with me whether I was involved
in any such meeting. I did not meet with Mr. Wiranto and have no plans
to meet the gentleman.
The only time I met with Gen. Wiranto was in June 1999, before the
referendum, and in October 1999, after the violence, and both meetings
were official and public.
I have not met with Gen. Wiranto or any senior Indonesian military
official since 1999.
